Hamdi AKIN – Chairman
Hamdi Akın was born in 1954. He graduated from Gazi University, Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 1976 he founded Akfen Holding, whose main activity area is to invest in, manage and coordinate partnerships and subsidiaries active in infrastructure and superstructure construction, port management, marine transportation, water distribution and waste water services, energy and real estate sectors. In addition to serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Akfen Holding, he is also the Chairman of Board at MIP (Mersin International Port). In 1997, he founded the TAV brand to build and operate Turkey's first high capacity airport in the aviation sector, one of the hardest sectors of the world, and he managed the company as Chairman of Board until 2017.
In addition to his private entrepreneurship, Mr. Akın realized projects in infrastructure, energy and investment in scope of privatization efforts. He also carried his dynamism and hard work in business to volunteer efforts and non-governmental organizations as a Manager and founder of many societies, foundations, chambers of commerce. He has served as Vice President of Fenerbahçe Sports Club (2000-2002), MESS-Metal Industrialists’ Union President of Ankara Regional Representatives Council (1992-2004), President of TÜGİAD-Turkish Young Businessmen’s Association(1998-2000), Board Member of TİSK-Turkish Confederation of Employers’ Associations (1995-2001), Board Member of TÜSİAD-Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association President of Information Society and New Technologies Commission (2008-2009) and Board Member of Clean Seas Association/TURMEPA (2011-2018).
Hamdi Akın is a founder of the Contemporary Turkey Studies Chair at the London School of Economics. He is also the Founding Member and Honorary President of the Turkey Human Resources Foundation (TİKAV), founded in 1999 to provide Turkey with well-trained human resources. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Abdullah Gül University Support Foundation.
İrfan ERCİYAS – Vice Chairman of the Board
İrfan Erciyas, graduated from Economics and Finance Department of Gazi University in 1977, has started to work in Türkiye Vakıflar Bankası. After having worked as inspector and Branch manager in Türkiye Vakıflar Bankası, he continued to work as Vice General Manager between 1996 and 2002 and as General Manager between 2002-2003.
Erciyas who joined Akfen Holding in 2003 as Vice Chairman of the Board of Administrators, had worked especially on privatization of Vehicle Inspection Stations, Mersin International Port and IDO and also during the foundation and investment processes of Akfen REIT and Akfen Enerji, for the public offering of Akfen Holding and Akfen REIT and on the subjects of the share sales of the shareholdings and long term financing. İrfan Erciyas is working in Akfen Holding , as Executive Board Member since March 2010 and he is also Chairman of the Board of Administrators, Vice Chairman and Member of Board of Administrators of several subsidiaries and affiliates of Akfen Holding.
Selim AKIN – Board Member
Selim Akın, graduated from Surrey University, Business Administration Department in the United Kingdom, and after coming back to Turkey Mr. Akın started his professional career in the Akfen Holding Accounting Department and later served in the Project Development and Finance Departments.
The main projects in which he participated are the privatization and financing of Vehicle Inspection Stations, the privatization and financing of Mersin Port and Akfen Holding’s public offering and bond issue. Besides his Chairman of the Board of Directors role at Akfen Altyapı Holding A.Ş., Akfen İnşaat ve Turizm A.Ş., Mr. Akın also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO at Akfen Holding and its various subsidiaries.
Mr. Akın has become a member of the Turkish Young Businessmen’s Association. Mr. Akın is a member of TÜSİAD and Turkish Tourism Investors Association (TTYD). Also he is Vice Chairman of Young Businessmen Association of Turkey (TÜGİAD) and he has also been serving as DEİK representative since 2018.
Pelin AKIN Özalp – Board Member
After graduating from Surrey University, UK, in 2010, Pelin Akın Özalp started her career in the Deutsche Bank. Following her return to Turkey, she attended the MT Program of TAV Airports Holdings. Later moving on to the parent company, she has been serving as a Board Member in Akfen Holding as of 2012.
She is an active member of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors at TİKAV (Turkish Human Resources Education and Health Foundation) and Vice President of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award-Türkiye National Committee. She is also Chairwoman at the Advisory Board of the Contemporary Turkish Studies Chair founded in London School of Economics since 2010.
She has been serving in DEİK(Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey) as a Board Member in Spanish, British and US Business Councils. She is also a Board Member of Turkish Tourism Investors Association (TTYD), Turkey Business Women's Association (TIKAD), the Marine Environment Protection Association (TURMEPA) and American Turkish Society (ATS) Boards at the moment.
Previously, her experience entails different Board Memberships in various networks such as Association of Family Businesses (TAİDER) and Turkey Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Young Entrepreneurs Advisory Councils, Association of Women in Board of Directors (YKKD). She was elected as the youngest deputy board member in TUSIAD in 2014.
Currently serving as Board Member of Akfen Holding, and Board of Directors Member of Akfen Renewable Energy, Akfen REIT, Istanbul Sea Buses (İDO) and Travelex.
She has enjoyed her YPO network from 2013-2020.
Anna HALPERN-LANDE – Board Member
Anna Halpern-Lande graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Anna has been working with renewable energy and infrastructure companies and startups since 1998. She has built, invested in, and developed companies and infrastructure projects in these areas and sold her shares in these companies to third parties. She has held various managerial positions in different companies in Europe and the United States, especially in the energy sector. Throughout her career, she successfully managed various ventures including Tellurian Biodiesel Inc, Project 2030. Cyrnel and Ortus Climate Mitigation. She has also worked for multinational companies such as Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Corio and Shell. In addition, she served as a Board Member and Advisor to the Board of Directors at Glasspoint Solar, Sterling Analytics, Eelpower Ltd and Milamber Ventures PLC.
Elif ATEŞ ÖZPAK – Board Member
After graduating from Istanbul University with a degree in Law in 1992, Elif Ateş Özpak joined Pekin & Pekin Law Firm in 1994, and became a partner in the firm in 1999. Özpak completed the Program of Instruction for Lawyers (PIL) at Harvard Law School, and worked as Corporate Legal Advisor at Turkcell between 20001 and 2005. Taboğlu was an associate attorney at Ateş & Demirhan Law Firm between 2004-2008. Subsequently, she served as a partner and investment committee member of Crescent Capital (CEFT Clean Energy Fund) between 2010-2020. Elif Ateş Özpak was appointed as an independent member of the board of directors of Arzum Elektrik Ev Aletleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. on March 31, 2021, and she has been serving as a managing partner at Kybele Consulting Limited UK since April 2017, and a business partner at Globalturk Capital since November 2020. In the last 12 years, she served as an independent board member at Unico Sigorta (former Aviva Sigorta) (2019), Boyner Group (2012-2017), and Krediz (fin-tech) (2014-2016), and as a board member at Kuzeykaya Elektrik Üretim A.Ş: (2014-2016), Doğa Çevreleri Teknolojileri A.Ş. (2014-2016), and at Ray Sigorta (2008).
Graham WOOD – Independent Board Member
Graham Wood has an international career in the Electricity and Gas sectors in UK, USA, Europe, and Asia culminating in senior financial roles in the largest power company in Europe. Prior to becoming a board member for Akfen, he held similar positions in companies such as Freenergy and ENEA. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of Reading.
Hasan KÖKTAŞ – Independent Member of the Board
Hasan Köktaş was born in 1963 in Trabzon. In 1988, he graduated from Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Public Administration. He started his career at Türkiye İş Bankası. He worked in Family Finance between 1990-1994 in various positions, and served as a member of the Board of Directors at Vakıfbank between 1996-1997 and as the General Manager of Belko between 1994 and 1999. Between 2003 and 2008, he served as the Vice President of the Privatization Administration of Turkey. He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Erdemir between 2004 and 2006, and Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Türkiye Petrol Rafinerileri A.Ş. (TÜPRAŞ) between 2003 and 2008.
During his career in the Privatization Administration, he took part in the privatization and public offering of Turkey’s largest companies such as Tüpraş, Erdemir, Halkbank, Esgaz, Bursagaz and also harbors and mining companies Hasan Köktaş worked as the Vice President of Privatization Administration in charge of oil, natural gas and electricity sectors, and served as the Chairman of Energy Market Regulatory Board (EMRA) between 2008 and 2014. Hasan Köktaş, who has been serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Energy Foundation (TENVA) since 2014, has been a Member of the Board of Directors of Aydem Energy Holding since 2017 and Chairman of Board of Directors of ACC Energy Investment & Consultancy Co since 2019. Köktaş has training certificates in various fields and participated in many national and international meetings on energy. Hasan Köktaş speaks English; he is married and has 3 children.
Yusuf TÜLEK – Independent Member of the Board
Born in 1962 in Denizli, Yusuf Tülek graduated from Karadeniz Technical University Mechanical Engineering in 1983 and started to work as an engineer at the Turkish Electricity Authority Zonguldak Çatalağzı Thermal Power Plant. He worked as the Deputy Manager of 1200 MW Trakya Natural Gas Power Plant between 1986-1994. Afterwards, he worked as the Project and Power Site Manager at Çukurova Elektrik A.Ş. between 1994-1996, Assistant General Manager at Rumeli Holding A.Ş. between 1996-1998, Energy Projects Coordinator at Asna Holding A.Ş. between 1998-2000, Consultant at McD Consulting Office between 2000-2001, and Energy Project Supervisor at Esnida Ltd. between 2001-2003. Yusuk Tülek served as the Board Member and Assistant General Manager of Türkiye Elektrik Ticaret Taahhüt A.Ş. (TETAŞ) between 2003 and 2004, and he was appointed to the EMRA Board with the Appointment Decision published in the Official Gazette of 3 January 2004, and he worked as an EMRA Board Member until 2010. He has been serving as the Founder Shareholder of TB Enerji Yatırım Danışmanlık Ltd since 2012, and he is an Independent Board Member at Lokman Hekim Engürüsağ A.Ş. since 2021.
Şebnem KALYONCUOĞLU ÜNLÜ – Independent Member of the Board
After graduating from Boğaziçi University Business Administration Department in 1995, Şebnem Kalyoncuoğlu Ünlü received her MSc in International Accounting and Finance from London School of Economics in 1996. Ünlü started her career at ABN AMRO Bank in Turkey, and served as Assistant Manager in the Structured Finance Unit of the Bank between 1996 and 1999. Joining Credit Suisse London in 1999, Ünlü assumed a role in charge of Turkey within the Emerging Markets Division. She served as Country Manager and Head of Investment Banking for Turkey at Credit Suisse until 2006. Subsequently, Ünlü worked as Alkhair Capital Turkey’s CEO and Executive Board Member. Şebnem Kalyoncuoğlu Ünlü is currently member of ÜNLÜ & Co Board of Directors.
Şebnem Kalyoncuoğlu Ünlü, who is a member of TÜSİAD, YPO and Board of Trustees of Turkish Entrepreneurship Foundation (Girvak), also assumes role at SAHA and the Tate Modern MENA Committee.
Kayrıl KARABEYOĞLU – General Manager
Graduated from METU Civil Engineering Department in 1998, Kayrıl Karabeyoğlu completed his postgraduate studies doing a double major between years 1998-2001 at New York Lubin School of Business on Finance and Information Systems.
Mr. Karabeyoğlu launched his professional career at Standard and Poor’s New York Office between years 2001-2004, and continued his professional life at Project Financing Department of Garanti Bank between years 2004 to 2006.
Kayrıl Karabeyoğlu acted as Director at SU Private Equity Management between years 2006-2010 and then appointed as Turkey Country Manager at Advent International between years 2010-2013.
Then appointed as the CEO at Doğuş SK Venture Capital Trust between years 2013-2018, Karabeyoğlu further assumed the position of Executive Board Membership at Radore Data Center and Advisory Committee Membership at Endeavor.
Karabeyoğlu also authored three articles entitled “LBO and Credit Risk – relationship between LBO transaction sizes and credit performances”, “Leverage and Dividend – Balance sheet structuring strategies of private capital funds”, and “the credit quality of the portfolios of the derivate market players” that were published at international publications.
As of 2018, he is appointed as the General Manager at Akfen Renewable Energy.
Mustafa Kemal GÜNGÖR – Deputy General Manager / Chief Operating Officer
Mustafa Kemal Güngör graduated from Middle East Technical University Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department in 1998 and completed his master's degree at the same university and the same department in 2003. He studied Energy Systems in the last year of his undergraduate education and during his master's degree. Güngör, who completed Bilkent University Executive MBA program in 2020, has devoted all his professional life in the energy sector since 1998. Güngör started his career in the field of energy transmission and worked in high voltage energy transmission lines and substations projects. In his later business life, he worked in companies that made investments in power plants. He completed all the processes from the installation of Turkey's first private sector wind farm to the end of the first year operation period.
He is one of the first members of the team that manages the development, construction and operation of hydroelectric power plants in Akfen's portfolio, which he joined in July 2007. In parallel with the company's growth, he has also been involved in the development of solar and wind projects, company/project acquisition and sales, partnership processes and energy trading. Güngör, who is responsible for the operations and energy trade of all plants in the portfolio, serves as General Manager and Board Member in special purpose companies affiliated with the company and Deputy General Manager for Akfen Renewable Energy.
Kürşat TEZKAN – Deputy General Manager / Chief Business Development Officer
In 2003-2004, Tezkan served as Vice President at Kuşadası Port Aegean Port Authority Inc., and then served as General Manager in Akfen Tourism Investments & Management Co. Ltd, as Director in Tüv-Türk Vehicle Inspection Station Construction Works Inc., and conducted Project Development works in Akfen Holding A.Ş. From that date until 2012, he served as Deputy General Manager of Finance and Corporate Relations in Mersin International Port Authority Inc.
Tezkan served as Akfen Holding Public Relations Coordinator between April 2012 and June 2013 and as Akfen-Su General Manager in 2014. He served as Akfen SPP General Manager between 2014 and 2016 and assumed the responsibilities of Akfen Tourism Investments as well as IDO permits.
Kürşat Tezkan has been serving as Chief Business Development Officer of Akfen Renewable Energy since 2016.
Mehmet YEŞİLKAYA – Deputy General Manager / Chief Construction and Engineering Officer
In 1986, he graduated from Hacettepe University Department of Mechanical Engineering. He started his career in 1986 at Kutlutaş -157 MW * 2-Çatalağzı B Thermal Power Plant Construction Project. He served as manager in many international and local projects, in Thermal Power Plant Projects (Natural Gas Cycle, Pulverized Coal, Fluidized Bed), Natural Gas Projects (Pressure Reducing Station, Natural Gas Compressor Stations and Natural Gas Transmission Lines), and various refinery construction projects (Hydrocracker, Isomerization, Diesel Hydro-treating).
He joined Akfen HEPP in April 2011 and managed engineering-procurement-construction and commissioning works of the HEPPs that are in the construction phase; he supervised feasibility, concept design, engineering-procurement-construction procurement processes of the 1.148 MW Mersin Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant Project, and managed the feasibility processes within the scope of 600MW Sedef-II Thermal Power Plant project development works.
As of 2016, he has been serving as Deputy General Manager of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning processes of the investments of Akfen Renewable Energy Inc.
Özgür UZUNOĞLU – Deputy General Manager / Finance
In 2000, he graduated from Department of Business Administration of Boğaziçi University. He started his professional career as a corporate finance analyst and partner at Global Securities.
From 2006 to 2009, he served as a senior investment banker at NBK Capital. Later, he joined Burgan Securities (formerly EFG Istanbul) and held the corporate finance co-chair until 2015.
He coordinates and executes important processes (documentation, examination, investment case and feasibility analysis, board reporting, SPA negotiations) in corporate finance transactions (such as mergers and acquisitions, capital and debt market transactions).
He coordinates and executes project financing of investments. Moreover, he performs financial analysis and modeling of organic and inorganic growth investments. He leads preparation and coordination of periodical business reports, and presents them to the shareholders and the Board.
